چکیده
Chromatic dispersion is an important fiber attribute affecting transmission performance over optical fibers. Various chromatic measurement methods have been developed primarily for single-mode In the literature, techniques were also to characterize few-mode fibers and multi-mode These are often subject some limitations. this paper, a simple robust method of fibers, polarization--maintaining presented using frequency domain instrument vector network analyzer. The applied all three types through one methodology uniformly. Using analyzer, obtains complex transfer function transmission. inverse Fourier transform measured used determine group delays each mode fiber. Although sampling highly under-sampled whole link, proper treatment data, we can de-alias signals obtain accurate values mode. By measuring different wavelengths, data yield wavelength window.

Polarization Mode Dispersion in Optical Fibers
In the previous chapter, we discussed devices based on deliberately introduced birefringence in an optical fiber, thus utilizing the polarization effects to our advantage. In Chapter 10, we discuss the detrimental aspect of birefringence in optical fibers—namely, polarization mode dispersion (PMD). The existence of birefringence in a fiber implies that the fiber supports two orthogonally polari...
متن کاملPolarization-mode dispersion of large mode-area photonic crystal fibers
We report on an experimental study of the polarization properties of large mode-area photonic crystal fibers (PCFs). We find that such fibers may exhibit very low birefringence and polarization-mode dispersion (PMD) indicating a highly symmetrical hole structure over a long length. Moreover, the influence of temperature on the polarization-mode dispersion is investigated. The results show that ...
متن کاملPolarization-mode interferometry in birefringent single-mode fibers.
An interferometric technique was used to investigate the relative phase delay between polarization modes in birefringent single-mode fibers. Polarization-mode dispersion is directly deduced from the measurements of relative phase delay at different wavelengths. Relative group delays of 20 fsec can be measured in meter-length samples without the need for light-polarizing devices.
متن کاملMode-coupling analysis of anisotropic polarization-maintaining fibers.
We analyze the coupling between the fundamental vector modal fields of two parallel polarization-maintaining fibers. An improved coupled-mode theory is employed, which also applies to anisotropic materials. Results for the array-mode-propagation constants are presented as a function of the relative tilt angle between the principal axes of the two fibers.

Polarization coupling in single-mode, single-polarization optical fibers is investigated, and a set of coupled-mode equations for single-mode, single-polarization fibers including guided and leaky modes is derived.
